Don’t Let a Holiday End When You Come Home!
Do you find it difficult to adjust when you come home from a trip? Maybe you feel a little blue now you’re back home again, which is something the jet lag certainly doesn’t help with! And if you’re a parent with kids complaining about boredom, now that there’s no resort pool to splash around in, that feeling is only going to get even worse!
But you shouldn’t let the holiday feeling end when you come home again. When the fun keeps on rolling, and the rules are relaxed just a little, you can make the whole of summer enjoyable before the kids head back to school.
As such, here are a few family activities to try out once you’re back home, unpacking your cases, and ready to get back to your usual day to day lives. Get the kids to try out a few of these to ensure the fun doesn’t stop the moment you open the front door!
Set Up a Paddling Pool
A paddling pool isn’t quite the heated, chlorine treated hotel pool you may be used to (and the kids will definitely complain about missing!), but it’s something you can all dip in and out of. During the summer time, that may be all you need to keep the worst of the sunshine off of you!
To ensure you all fit in and can splash around together, try to get an extra large paddling pool. Then get the hose in there to fill it up, get some armbands for any youngsters (and plenty of their favourite bathtime toys), and spend a good couple of hours in your pool and running around the garden too.
Plan a Few More Day Trips
Day trips are great for filling the gap that a holiday has left. If you’ve still got a couple of weeks before the schools go back, why not plan a couple more than you originally intended, just to make sure the kids don’t get too bored? You need to get out of the house as well, and there are plenty of castles and theme parks in the UK to try out!
Day trips tend to be a lot easier to arrange than you think as well! Pack a picnic, make sure you have some wet wipes and a rubbish bag stored in the car, and always have a good pair of walking shoes on your feet as well.
Make a Scrapbook of Your Memories
You probably took a lot of photos whilst you were on holiday. Similarly, the kids probably had their first camera to take their own shots with, even if it was just the disposable kind you need to get developed. Either way, make sure you get all of these snaps printed off, dig out the receipts and ticket stubs you kept, and then get to work making a scrapbook of your memories.
You can also take it all digital, which can be easier, and print a scrapbook for every member of the family. If you don’t have to print things off separately, you’ll definitely save a lot of printer ink! If you can, head out to a hobby store to pick up some crafty bits that can be stuck around your pictures and fully customise the books you put together – the more unique they are, the more you’ll remember the fun you had!
Eat Outside
Eating outside once you’re back home again will help you feel like you’re still eating breakfast on the hotel balcony or gathering around the campfire whilst out camping. Indeed, eating outside helps us to feel a little more liberated, compared to only ever eating inside and staring out the windows, and it’s one of the easiest things to do to maintain the holiday spirit.
Get some plastic plates and cups to use, to make sure nothing can be smashed when dropped on the patio, and then decorate your outdoor furniture with comfy cushions and blankets. And if you can combine eating outside with a BBQ maybe once a week, the kids are going to love this activity all the more!
Keep the holiday spirit alive and well when you touch back down! Once you’re home, make the rest of your time off as fun as it was when you were away by targeting your activities toward that holiday feeling. Both kids and adults alike can find fun in the activities above, and the more you do them, the better your summer is going to feel!
