Our pumpkins were carved on Jones-time this year; the day after Hallowe’en. Because when your littles are 4, 2 and 4 months, it’s okay to pretend that carving them the day after is still Halloweeny (yes, that’s a word in our house). In fact, this whole week, and the weekend ahead of us is still…
It’s just a field. A field that grows magic. The tree farm. We don’t know what it’s called, and we don’t know how we found it. They don’t advertise…and they always ask us not to tell others. And with gloopy mud puddles, jewelled cobwebs and mystical weeds, we find Christmas here, every year.
There’s no doubt that Autumn has arrived here in the South, clad in rich jewel toned sweaters and crisp leafy trousers. The trees are more beautiful than ever, conkers are beginning to litter the mossy woodland floors and the skies are startling blue. I love all of the seasons for the activities and memories that…
Nearly three whole months after the actual event, and I am finally getting around to uploading the photos of our trip to the patch onto our blog. I’m so behind. Sickness, Christmas plotting and then Christmas fun took over the majority of the cells that are still able to function well in my poor brain…
It’s the most wonderful time of the year again. This past weekend we headed out on our annual expedition for the traditional cutting of the Christmas Tree. In traditional style, Baby Hero fell asleep on the drive over and slept through having his little duffel coat bundled onto him as we made our way, saw…
St. Patrick’s Day celebrations made simple! I hauled my box full of St. Patrick’s Day stuff from “that cupboard” this morning after the boys had started school, to see what I had ready for next week. Over the past few years I’ve collected a few bits that I use every year and as St. Patrick’s…

What a lovely thing to be able to do. I fear any Christmas trees felled round here would be from someone's garden!

This is such a heartwarming post! I love the pics. I am growing a Christmas tree to use in a couple of years too!
I am LOVING all your pictures. We have a place right up the street (literally) that sells trees, so we usually just pick one out and walk it home. I would love to chop one down someday.
That's a great tradition to have! I love the pictures and I am sure he was very excited to get his very own tree. It's a shame that a disease has destroyed all the rest of the trees!
What a beautiful family you have! Living in the city my whole life this is something I never got to experience, like EVER. I can't wait for our move so my daughter can have memories like this. You took such beautiful photos too, a shame you couldn't score a big family tree, but it's nice your boys will have their own tree this year! Lucky!
Aww. Look at him with his freshly cut tree. What a cute little man!
This brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful right of passage. That is the most adorable little tree, too!
