The all new Paw Patrol Mighty Jet Command Centre gives the Pups and Ryder a HQ in the sky! No more lookout towers and cruisers, we’re taking off! So how does it work?
MIGHTY JET INSTRUCTIONS
HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE PAW PATROL MIGHTY JET
The Mighty Jet is held into the box by some lock key pieces that you need to open the back of the box for and twist according to the arrows. It took us about 4 minutes to get into it all. Ryder and five discs are in a plastic molded case which is also visible in the box – but before throwing the box away, make sure you find the stickers.
There are five stickers which need to be applied inside the Command Centre. These are found underneath a flap of cardboard at the bottom of the box in a plastic wrapper along with the instructions.
Take out the Jet and it’s ready to go [except the stickers].
TRANSFORMING THE PAW PATROL MIGHTY JET TO COMMAND CENTRE
OPENING THE COMMAND CENTRE
So the five stickers need to be applied to the inside of the Command Centre – and to do this, it needs to be opened. Pop your fingers under the yellow hood piece nearest the cockpit of the jet and pull up as it clicks open. It will open fully and stand at a 45 degree angle.
Once open, spin the jet around and from the back lift the white piece of the jet in order to lower the platform inside the command centre. This creaks a little but there’s no click into place – just open until it’s flat and ready to be used as a platform.
STICKERS
From this position, all of the places which need stickers applying to are visible. There are two triangular stickers, two rectangular and a shield sticker. They’re pretty sticky so be careful and DO NOT attempt to put the stickers on without lowering the Command Centre platform first [like I almost did].
BATTERIES
HOORAY! Batteries are included – but if you want some backup power, the Paw Patrol Mighty Jet uses 3 x AAA batteries.
HOW TO OPERATE THE PAW PATROL MIGHTY JET
First the Jet needs to be switched on – from the reverse of the jet, under the right hand wing there’s a white switch. It’s a bit like a tic-tac. It’s important to remember that the Mighty Jet can be played with without the lights and sounds on, which is handy sometimes.
Once that’s on [or off, it doesn’t matter!], lift the blue cockpit lid from the front and you can seat Ryder in it. There are little handlebars that his hands fit onto easily and firmly – this will stop him clattering about if he decides to pull a Maverick going up against an MiG-28 move.
Once he’s in position, open what looks like a mini cockpit inside that, and drop in the five discs – or however many you still have left if your house is like mine and these things disappear faster than a box of Jaffa Cakes.
That’s the jet all set up and ready for action!
OPERATING AND EJECTING THE MINI JET
Much like the PJ Masks Seeker we reviewed last month, the Paw Patrol Might Jet has a break-away piece for play. Although the Jet itself will of course be flown through the sky in play, it’s pretty heavy and not the best fun to keep hurling it above your head. So Spinmaster have decided to give Ryder his own Mini Jet. This is the front part of the jet and it ejects from the rest of the set by pushing the red flap that’s inside the command centre downwards. Once off, little wings pop out of the side of the mini jet and Ryder is ready to take to the skies!
PAW PATROL MIGHTY JET BLASTERS
So I think this is the first time we’ve seen weapons in the Paw Patrol range. I’m sure these are water discs or something lovely, but all the same it adds an extra bit of excitement to the Mighty Pups Super Paws missions. To fire the discs that are loaded easily into the mini cockpit inside the mini jet, press the yellow paw shield on the top of the mini jet. It’s pretty stiff to get it to fire but the range on the discs is at least a metre and lots of fun without being painful.
To return the mini jet, reverse it up the ramp and the wings will take care of themselves as it clicks back into place nicely.
LIGHTS AND SOUNDS
If you have the Super Paws Might Pups ready for action and want some lights and sounds to go with the action, there are two places you can see and hear them.
In Jet mode, press the little blue paw shield button on the one thruster to work them and see the red and orange lights as they come to life! There’s also a little lever on the jet thruster which makes them pop out and look even more ready for flight.
Inside the command centre, press the same button to see the centre’s lights and hear computerised noises whilst everypup is at work.
SUPER PAWS MIGHTY PUPS – WHERE DO THEY SIT?
This is generally my question when it comes to a big piece of play equipment like this one – because it IS big. I want everything to fit in this. It’s Ryder’s version of the Millenium Falcon, let’s face it. And whilst there’s only space for Ryder to steer the Mighty Jet from the cockpit, inside the jet there’s a large holding space where the Super Paws Mighty Pups can be popped in flight. This space will obviously be reduced if there’s another vehicle in there [and all vehicles are compatible I hear!] but there’s quite a bit of space. This makes tidying up easier too.
THE JONES BOYS’ TOYS VERDICT
It’s so much fun. It’s well built, big enough for three boys to play together with, sturdy – it doesn’t tip when someone touches the side – and there are lots of realistic details on it in the plastic molding. There’s space for storing pups, there are no parts that look like they’ll be snapped off anytime soon and it’s easy to use. We love the detachable mini jet and the blasters, and the lights and sounds add something extra to it. It’s a brilliant addition to the Paw Patrol collection and compatible with the other vehicles we have.
PUP ACCESSORIES PROPOSAL
That being said, we do love accessories. It would be great with the larger sets like these if there were a few little pieces with them from the episodes themselves. If this is the first piece of Paw Patrol fun you’re buying, you already need to buy an actual pup to be able to play with anyone other than just yourself – and as none of the Paw Patrol are actually included in the set it’s a little disappointing as a parent that I already feel I need to spend more when this is such a big ticket item already.
There are also many of us parents who probably aren’t delighted at the prospect of buying another full set of pups in Super Paws Mighty Pup gear when we already have so many other pups in our toy boxes being made redundant essentially. It would be great if, like in PJ Masks, Spinmaster add in helmets and accessories to their sets which could be used to pimp up the pups and reduce the amount of plain clothes Paw Patrol pups from being discarded when the costumed ones come into stores.
OVERALL VERDICT ON THE PAW PATROL MIGHTY JET COMMAND CENTRE
As it stands, the Might Jet Command Centre will make an amazing Christmas present for Paw Patrol. It’s going to make a fantastic base for play, it’s big enough to let at least three little ones play with it and there’s plenty of space for action in the toy as it’s open and accessible from three quarters of the way around. It’s sturdy, has batteries in it ready for play and even when the batteries are run down, it’s still as fanastic as before. We love that you can store the pups in it, it’s not as dust attracting as the Paw Patroller and the only improvement we’d make that the boys could think of would be for flip down wheels so it could move along the ground and taxi sometimes. All in all, we love it. Thanks Spinmaster!
