Sharing is caring!
We are absolutely honoured to become Parragon Book Buddies and we’ll be sharing one of their books each month on the blog as the boys enjoy their new reads at bedtime. “Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere” arrived last week and is a very welcome addition to our Autumn bookcase.
Apparently, and according to my husband, you can never have too many books. I think it’s a man thing. My dad never let me throw any books away either and so on my last count as I restacked the bookcase in the boys’ room, there were over 300 books – and we have seasonal libraries too.
There are
Christmas books, Easter and Autumn/Hallowe’en books that we keep separate from the everyday reading and only bring out at those times. Adding to seasonal collections as we have with
the Snowman and the Snowdog is one of my favourite hobbies and I get quite excited to be seeking out new authors on Amazon each year.
I smiled when I saw there was a space to write your name inside the cover. I know from rediscovering my old childhood books that I used to do this all of the time, and I know how proud I was that I could write my name in there.
The glittery cover made the book instantly appealing to the boys, as they all reached to touch it and feel the sandpaper-like texture.
We loved the patter of the book – rhyming opposites and the variation of shorter and longer, more complex sentences on each page – coupled with shorter and closer range illustrations.
What I really loved about this book was that generally with children’s literature, the title is the punchline or final page of the book also – but not this time! There are additional pages afterwards which is a brilliant surprise – Jensen thought the book was over and was shocked that there was more to come.
The contrasting dark backgrounds and bright oranges and purples helps to create a real Hallowe’en atmosphere to the book – and with plenty of detail to keep the boys talking as the pages turn. This is a book I would love to have used with my class when I was teaching at Hallowe’en time.
Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere is a beautifully written book that will be treasured by our boys – and as Jensen’s reading has suddenly skyrocketed, he’s taken over the reading of one book each night to his baby brothers – this book has been read every single night since its arrival!
Happy [almost] Hallowe’en!
Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere is written by by Lorena Alvarez (Author), Smriti Prasadam-Halls (Author) and published by Parragon Books

This looks like such a great children's book. I have seasonal books that I bring out for the grandkids, too. And when my kids grew up, they loved it every time they found one of their childhood books where they had written their name inside the cover. I'm such a book lover, too.
