Hey, friends! Happy Easter holidays. We still have a few days left of our last week before the boys head back to school again [boooo] but at last the sunshine has shown its head, in between the random snow showers that is.
This week we had a visit from the Easter Bunny…and this time he bought a gigantic teepee with him and left it in the garden. It served as base for the Easter Hunt and became to site where many chocolate eggs and sweets were eaten. The boys were over the moon – the Easter Bunny may have had a little help from Smoby this year, you see.
WHO ARE SMOBY UK?
If you haven’t heard of Smoby before, they’re a French company with a huge range of fun and imaginative toys for outdoors and roleplay in your home. We’ve had kitchens and workbenches and playhouses and slides – and now we have a teepee to play with! We love Smoby because we live in Hampshire with three boys who love the outdoors – having toys that are suitable for staying outside and being cleaned easily is a huge plus for us.
The boys outgrew the playhouse we had in the garden and sadly said goodbye to it last year, thinking that was their last garden toy they’d ever fit in. But we were wrong. Enter the Smoby Teepee.
IMAGINARY PLAY WITH THE SMOBY TEEPEE
We have a bit of a thing for the Wild West Theme, and after Hero’s Wild West BBQ Party we were so sad because a family member had kindly taken our teepee for us to their garage [after it rained the WHOLE party through] and it was mouldy when we collected it. Bye bye, teepee. This teepee is never going to be mouldy, no matter how much it rains!
Our boys all love imaginary play in the garden and we’ve always been very keen to encourage role play. It’s the only type of play that keeps them away from the computer, and I’d much rather they were having fresh air and jumping about outdoors than sat inside, niggling each other over Fortnite or Roblox.
Is the SMOBY TeePee Easy to Assemble?
The Smoby Teepee is made with 100% PP UV-resistant, long lasting plastic. The colour won’t fade in the sunshine and we found no rough edges, burrs or spiky bits, which is what I check for first. It’s beautifully made and comes in a rather large box which we all know is very exciting in itself, haha.
Assembly time says an hour and a half but Gav managed to complete it in 45 minutes – it was also easy to disassemble [we are moving home this year and Hero really wants the teepee in his new bedroom] again in about 15 minutes. The construction is mainly plastic screw plug type pieces and once up, it is SOLID. It’s very impressive and beautiful to look at.
CAN YOU USE THE TEEPEE OUTDOORS?
Yes – you can use it indoors or outdoors – if there’s a lot of rain, your door curtains would get soggy but that’s about it. It’s so beautiful Hero wants it in his new bedroom.
HOW BIG IS THE SMOBY TEEPEE?
This is a teepee that grows with your children – and I LOVE that. It’s so sad when they grow out of a toy they’ve loved for only a year or two, especially when it’s made of solid plastic. We want these toys to have a place in our lives for years to come! The Smoby Teepee grows from 159cm [with a base of 127 x 121cm] to 183cm, with an interior base 147 x 140cm. The age range is specified as 2-8, but Jensen is 11 and there’s nothing that will stop him joining in. All three boys [6, 9 and 11] fitted into the teepee merrily.
SMOBY TEEPEE ACCESSORIES
Inside the Smoby teepee are two little plastic baskets which are fitted to the inside for snacks, toys, whatever they want to store, which we thought was very clever. The curtain has velcro to keep it closed and the patterning allows light and air to flow into the teepee making it feel cosy but not claustrophobic – and lovely on a breezy Eastertide day!
IS THE SMOBY TEEPEE EASY TO CLEAN?
What I love about the teepee is that it’s washable. I can hear angels singing. Something beautiful and light coloured around three boys who love make believe play is going to need cleaning. Also we get a lot of spiders in the cracks of anything outdoors and I generally squirt them with water to move them on. Sorry spiders, but it’s better than being squished. The plastic is UV resistant and so I feel happier about them being outside in it too.
WHERE CAN I BUY THE SMOBY TEEPEE?
You can get the Smoby Teepee on for £179 currently at Amazon, or shop online to find other retailers.
