GARDEN FRIENDS FISHING POLE: A CHILD FRIENDLY PHOTOGRAPHY PROP

This month’s Bostik craft is a pretty one – the theme of Spring Garden was handed out and I wanted to make something whimsical that the boys would enjoy playing with.  Since sticks are a big pull in our house – three boys, go figure – I have plenty to hand.

My fairytale fishing pole serves a dual purpose.  Yes, the boys will play with it and have fun – but more than that, they SMILE NATURALLY when they are having fun, which means happy photographs.  If you want your children to give you photographs to cherish, give them something to do in them.  This priceless prop cost me around £3 at the most.

You will need:

A garden cane or stick

Sequins

Washi Tape [or sellotape]

Bostik PVA Glue

Tissue Paper

Mini Pegs

Pom Poms

Boggly Eyes

Twine

Felt

Here’s how to make it – so simple it took me around 7 minutes to complete – then I had to wait for the glue to dry.  If you don’t want to wait, Bostik make brilliant Glu Dots – but my boys keep taking them for their own artwork.

Freehand cut your leaves from the felt

Stick your leaves to your pole

Secure sequins at base of pole with wash tape, wind tightly until around halfway and then secure other end.

Glue caterpillar pompoms and eyes

Tie twine to the top of the pole. Scrunch up tissue paper to make wings, clip in middle and onto twine at intervals with mini pegs

And that’s it – instant prop!
