DISNEY’S ANIMAL KINGDOM BONEYARD
We LOVED the Animal Kingdom Boneyard when we first visited with the boys – they were 3 years and 20 months old and some days they just needed to let off some steam, and we needed to get some shade from pushing them about all day. This is the only playground in the park and the Animal Kingdom Boneyard is perfect for just that – and it has seats for the tired grown ups, too.
There are two parts to the playground – one with slides and caves, a rope bridge and even a jeep to make believe drive, and a second shaded archeological dig site with special sand where you can dig and unearth dinos from long, long ago. Armed with little shovels and green buckets, our boys chatted to the Cast Members in the dig and helped them find some huge fossils of a T-Rex and Triceratops. I sat on the cool [non sticky] sand and watched, exhausted. Haha.
WHERE IS THE ANIMAL KINGDOM BONEYARD?
It’s in Dinoland, USA.
WHEN IS IT OPEN?
The park guide says it’s open from 10AM to 7PM.
WHO CAN USE IT?
The Boneyard is aimed at children 3-5 years old, but anyone can enter and play. Children must be supervised at all times and anyone under 7 must be accompanied by an adult – which in Disney terms, is anyone older than 14 years old.
POINTS TO NOTE ABOUT THE BONEYARD
Remember to be careful when climbing and exploring – some of the stones can be tricky and it always hurts to bump a knee or head.
Remember to bring drinks – when you’re having fun, you forget to hydrate! Remember that food and drink isn’t allowed in the Boneyard Dig area though, for obvious reasons.
We visited at the end of the day so that we didn’t get stuck in there all day – it’s an easy place to lose hours in if you’re little and love slides.
You don’t need to bring your own bucket, there are plenty there!
It was easy to keep an eye on the two boys in the dig but not so much in the playground part – there are lots of places for them to dip out of site if they’re speedy like ours.
