Saving For Disney…. Month One
Sadly we aren’t rich and so getting to Disney this year is going to require some serious tightening of the reins. To be honest, it’s going to mean spending nothing other than which it completely essential and selling everything we’ve got 😉
We haven’t been on holiday (save for one day visiting our parents at the beach in 2010) since Christmas 2008 when we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel in Disneyland Paris, and we need a break. This is the cheapest it will ever get for us to take our current family to Disney before Jensen starts school.
I fully admit (and hate) that shamefully, I am the big leaky hole in the boat when it comes to keeping our finances afloat and so I know it will be down to me whether we manage to make this work or not.
I know from speaking to some of my friends that many of us suffer from the same issues and so I’m going to write about our saving journey on here in the hopes that we might help or inspire some of you to do the same…and to make sure I stay on the straight and narrow in the run up to our hopeful holiday. Feel free to ask me what I’ve spent on any given day!
This week I’ve begun by enlisting the boys’ help. We all have a money box ~ Jensen and Lyoto have cute vintage Disney boxes in the shape of Mickey and Donald (given as Christmas presents by their Uncle Garth and Aunty Ginny) and I have a £1 IKEA sweetie jar. Each of us has a specified coin; Jensen is 50p, Lyoto is 20p and I am any other coin I find lying around, ha, ha. If we spot a 50p or 20p in our change, it goes straight into the relevant money box to be saved for Disney. Jensen thinks it’s fantastic ~ and has also learned two of our coins in the process.
At the end of each month (or when they are full, whichever comes first) we’ll empty them, and put the amount into our savings. So, on Thursday I’ll empty them and let you all know what we managed to save.
